Xiaomi Laser 1S ALPD : test / review

Xiaomi Laser 1S ALPD : test / review (presale with -100$)
Category: Projectors

If you follow the world of video projectors a bit, this new Xiaomi Laser 1S ALPD will probably remind you of a projector launched two years ago, your memory hasn't played a trick on you. Xiaomi has taken the basics of the Xiaomi Laser ALPD 3.0 by adding some improvements to justify the launch of a new model. This projector was very successful at the time, it can still stand up to many projectors launched more recently. This projector was bright, had very good sharpness but had some flaws such as the marked presence of rainbow effect and the absence of motion compensation. [b][b] The new Xiaomi Laser 1S ALPD will feature motion compensation (MEMC) but some other improvements: [b] - better processor to double the performance [b] - high sound 360° fidelity [b] - HDMI 2.1 [b] - automatic keystone correction [b] - reduced lag for games [b][b]

presale

You can take advantage of a reduced price (up to $100) by purchasing this projector in presale but you have to hurry, there won't be something for everyone at this price. How are my tests different from others on the web?

- I usually buy the devices with my own money, so price is just as important as you are!
- I keep the devices for at least a few weeks (sometimes more) to see what they are worth in real conditions.
- I answer (when possible) your questions to help you decide before you buy
- no one pays me to do these reviews, so I'm completely neutral and independent...
- My pages are not filled with ads

Why this projector?

Xiaomi has managed in just 2 or 3 years to establish itself as a reference brand in the world of video projectors. As with smartphones, they have established themselves with models available in all price brackets and offering a quality/price ratio that is often superior to the competition. My main projector (at the time of this writing) is a Xiaomi Laser Cinema 2, but I have tested others as well. The quality/price ratio is a strength of Xiaomi, but one of the weaknesses is the confusion they bring to the market with models that look alike and where you sometimes have to do a lot of research to understand the differences. This new Xiaomi Laser 1S ALPD is no exception to the rule and to further complicate the situation, its external appearance has hardly changed compared to the previous version. [b][b] Why should we care about this new version? A priori if this new model takes the same bases as the previous one by adding some new features, this will position this projector in a unique position in terms of image quality and price. This projector will fit between an XGIMI Horizon and its Pro version by offering more brightness, more sharpness and some new features to attack XGIMI on its territory. [b][b] Among the new features, we find: [b] - ARM Cortex A55 CPU with 1.9Ghz speed for better performance [b] - 360° high fidelity sound (2x10W ) [b] - HDMI 2.1 [b] - automatic keystone correction [b] - reduced lag for games (reported at 40ms) [b][b][b]

Projection room

My projection room is rectangular, 4.6m by 2.9m (height 2.2m). I have two projection walls, one white wall 2.9m wide with just white paint with a possible 4m setback. I then have a 133 inch ALR screen on another wall with a possible setback of 2.8m. I mainly use the ALR screen except when the layout or type of projector is not suitable for this situation.
