So far, I have remained in more or less known territory for my smartwatch tests. However, there are many brands on the market, most of which are totally unknown in Europe, but that doesn't mean that these products are not interesting.[b][b]I didn't know Fobase until I was contacted by the manufacturer who offered me a discount to buy this watch. Considering the price (43€), I told myself that I wasn't taking too many risks. The Fobase Magic has some interesting features, so I might well be positively surprised.[b][b]The Fobase Magic started its marketing through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter. It is now available for sale on Aliexpress.[b][b]The Fobase Magic offers the usual measurements such as heart rate, sleep measurement, ... but it also measures oxygen in the blood, body temperature and blood pressure.[b][b][b][b][b]linkManufacturer web site:https://fobase.com/collections/fobase-magic[b] How are my tests different from others on the web?
- I usually buy the devices with my own money, so price is just as important as you are! - I keep the devices for at least a few weeks (sometimes more) to see what they are worth in real conditions. - I answer (when possible) your questions to help you decide before you buy - no one pays me to do these reviews, so I'm completely neutral and independent... - My pages are not filled with ads

27/10/2020 : purchase of the Fobase Magic on Aliexpress (official Fobase shop)[b]10/12/2020: after more than a month of waiting, I finally received the Fobase, so I can start the test.[b][b]
Waarom deze smartwatch?
So far I have tested smartwatches from Amazfit, Samsung, Huawei and Umidigi. Apart from Umidigi, these are quite well known brands. By testing the Fobase Magic, I am venturing into unknown territory. This manufacturer is absolutely unknown and I have not found any test, so I would surely be one of the first to test this show.[b][b]The price is one of the strong points of the watch. For less than 50€, I have a watch that is quite successful aesthetically speaking and that allows me to measure a large number of criteria such as heart rate, sleep, oxygen in the blood, body temperature, blood pressure, ... I have not yet had the opportunity to test a watch with so many measurement possibilities. However, I am under no illusions as to the reliability of these measurements, because for 50€, I don't expect the Fobase to do better than much more expensive medical devices.[b][b]
Structure of my tests
I test products according to a pre-established structure (see below) to provide you with maximum information. Unfortunately, this takes a lot of time. Unlike some sites where products are tested on a single day, I use the products I test for a minimum of a few weeks and sometimes even a few months. If the test is not complete at the time of your visit, I invite you to come back later or ask your question in the comment section below.
[b][b]The box of the Fobase Magic is very anonymous, the brand of the watch is not even present. The box contains the Fobase Magic, three dials to personalise it, a recharging cable and a manual. [b][b]The particularity of the Fobase is to offer 3 different dials. There is a black dial, a black dial with red lines and a metallic dial. The idea is interesting but it is not an essential purchase criterion.[b][b]
[b][b]No application is needed to start the Fobase Magic for the first time, so you can use it right away. If you then want to synchronize it with your phone, you will need to use the GloryFit application.[b][b]The Gloryfit application is quite simple to use but the interface is poorly translated, the developers probably used an automatic translator. This shouldn't prevent you from using it, I certainly didn't encounter any problems with the configuration. The detection is done with a Bluetooth synchronisation and contrary to other more known watches, I didn't have any problem to detect the watch.[b][b]The application will also allow you to change the dial of the watch, there are many possibilities, I was surprised to find so many for such a little known manufacturer.[b][b]
[b][b]As the Fobase Magic costs less than 50€ I didn't expect the level of finish to be very good. I was positively surprised because even though the watch is made of plastic, the finish is good and the watch gives an impression of solidity. The watch has a large rounded display that is neither too small nor too large.[b][b]The bracelet also surprised me positively. It is made of rubber like most bracelets but this rubber is quite rigid, it doesn't deform much and holds the wrist well. It can be detached and replaced if necessary. With the Amazfit Bip U I had a bracelet that was too soft and ended up moving.[b][b]The three dials delivered with the watch don't bring much to the use, it's just a matter of taste. [b][b]The buttons on the side are quite imposing, the first one is used to switch on the watch or to go back, the second one allows to display the available sports.[b][b]Several sensors are available on the back, there is also the magnetic connector to charge the watch.[b][b]Of course I can't compare the Fobase to a Samsung Galaxy Watch but the level of finish is quite comparable to what you can find in other brands between 50 and 100€.[b][b]
The Fobase Magic uses Bluetooth to connect to your smartphone, you need to use the GloryFit application to use the full functionality of the watch.[b][b]
When I test unknown Chinese products like this Fobase Magic, I don't expect miracles for the battery. However, the Fobase Magic surprised me positively because despite regular use, the battery can last two weeks or more depending on the type of use.[b][b]The autonomy will vary greatly depending on the screen brightness and the automatic switch on with every movement of the wrist. I set the brightness to 50% and deactivated the automatic switch-on. I use the watch to do about 2 hours of sport per week.[b][b]
The Fobase Magic has a large screen, it is probably one of the largest circular screens I have been able to test so far. I find that the screen offers very good readability and even though it is an LCD screen, the contrast is quite good.[b][b]If you look very closely you can clearly see a gap between the pixels but at a normal distance this gap between the pixels is not very visible.[b][b]
[b][b]Even in strong light like the one in my studio, it is still possible to read the screen.[b][b]
The Fobase Magic offers many possibilities for a watch in this price range.[b][b]From the main screen:[b]- upwards: search, brightness, information, battery indicator and settings.[b]- down: messages and notifications[b]- left/right: access to the different functions[b][b]The watch offers the following features:[b]- temperature measurement[b]- measuring the number of steps[b]- heart rate measurement[b]- blood pressure measurement[b]- measurement of the oxygen level in the blood[b]- sports fashion with a wide range of possibilities[b]- weather display[b]- messages/notifications[b]- timer[b]- phone search[b]- settings[b][b]For less than 30 euros, the Fobase Magic offers an unbeatable price/functionality ratio, all it needs is the GPS.[b][b][b][b]
In the previous paragraph, I listed the many features of the Fobase Magic, but we still need to know whether the measurements of the various indicators are reliable.[b][b]Heart rate measurement[b]I use a Polar H10 belt to compare heart rate measurements with all the products I test.[b][b]Session 1 - Fobase Magic (duration 30 min)[b]Average number of heartbeats: 102[b]Maximum number of heartbeats: 112[b][b]Session 1 - Polar H10[b]Average number of heartbeats: 132[b]Maximum number of heartbeats: 145[b][b]Session 2 - Fobase Magic (duration 30 min)[b]Average number of heartbeats: 101[b]Maximum number of heartbeats: 109[b][b]Session 2 - Polar H10[b]Average number of heartbeats: 129[b]Maximum number of heartbeats: 139[b][b]As you can see heart rate measurements are unreliable, they are far from reality. The watch was however well attached to the wrist.[b][b]Temperature measurement[b]There are two temperature indicators on the watch, one is a real time measurement and the other I don't know what it is. On the real-time measurement, I got results quite close to reality. My body temperature is around 36° and the Fobase gave me a temperature between 35.6 and 36.2C. I didn't have a fever to see if the watch was able to detect it.[b][b]The other indicator gives me very low temperatures of around 31°C, I don't know what this indicator is but if my body was really at 31°C I am not sure I could write these lines.[b][b]Blood pressure[b]This is the first time I have tested a watch with this type of measurement. The manufacturer clearly indicates on his site that these measurements are not reliable, it's honest, but one may wonder why they offer it if it is not reliable. In daily use, I have always had very low blood pressure (compared to a device designed to measure blood pressure).[b][b]This measurement is therefore unreliable and a bit useless.[b][b]Number of steps[b]The reliability of the step count measurement will depend on the type of step you take. Walking normally, I have obtained a difference of 10 to 15%, the watch counts more steps than the reality. When running or having more movement in the arms, the measurement fluctuates with sometimes more steps, sometimes less.[b][b]Oxygen in the blood[b]Here too, the manufacturer mentions that this type of measure cannot be taken to the letter. Of all the measurements I took, I was close to 100% each time but I don't have any other device that would allow me to compare.[b][b]The Fobase Magic offers many possibilities but unfortunately most of them offer inaccurate measurements.[b][b]
To manage your watch on your phone, you need to download the Gloryfit application. This application is free and offers many possibilities but it is rather poorly translated. The translations in French were probably done with an automatic translator because sometimes the translations are really funny.[b][b]The application allows you to retrieve most of the data from the watch to display a daily, weekly or monthly summary. The screens are quite well organised but for the sport part, I didn't manage to get more data than a summary of the activity where other applications go into detail. [b][b]
The Fobase Magic is compatible with all phones capable of using the GloryFit application.[b][b]
The Fobase Magic uses a proprietary operating system, so it is not scalable and you cannot install an application. This operating system is frankly easy to use. As I often test watches I tend to have automatisms when I need a feature, I have never had to search for a feature because the watch is basically the same as other watches.[b][b]The graphical interface of the dial is quite good, it is possible to modify the dial but only a few dials are available. The other functionalities are generally well designed, we can sometimes feel a lack of maturity in some menus like the sports menu with the choice of different modes which offers a less good readability than the rest of the watch.[b][b][b]

Compare Fobase Magic with the others
I assigned a score of 1 to 10 for each test that determines the strengths and weaknesses of a product. I am using 0 for criteria that have not (yet) been tested. A score of 1 to 3 indicates poor performance (and yes, it does), a score of 4 to 6 indicates average performance, a score of 7 to 8 indicates good performance, and a score of 9 and 10 indicates exceptional performance. . The score is calculated based on my measurements and when there are no measurements, it is a subjective opinion based on my experience.
The scores are not static, they change over time because the performance of new products changes and this must be taken into account.

Test / Review conclusion
The Fobase Magic is an entry-level product, so don't expect miracles because for less than 30€ you won't find a watch that can compete with a Samsung Galaxy Watch. The watch offers many possibilities but most measurements are unreliable, so they should be seen as indicators of a trend rather than an exact measurement.[b][b]Despite the imperfections in the measurements, I liked the Fobase Magic for its aesthetics and level of finish. I think that for 30€, it is a beautiful watch, it offers a large screen and I also liked the bracelet which is more rigid than average, so it is possible to tighten the watch correctly without it moving. [b][b]The Fobase Magic is easy to use, its interface is intuitive even if sometimes some menus seem to have been done at the last minute. [b][b]The battery life is clearly a strength of this watch. I have obtained up to two weeks of autonomy with regular use and with a screen of this size, it's a very good score.[b][b]Who is this kind of product for? I think this watch may be suitable for a public looking for a simple watch that does not require exact measurements at the sporting level. The Fobase Magic should be seen as a "normal" watch with a few features rather than the other way round.[b][b]Strengths[b]- screen size[b]- finish [b]- easy to use[b]- good battery[b][b][b]Weaknesses[b]- inaccurate measurements[b]- poorly translated application and loss of certain information[b]- Lack of settings in the watch (e.g. time before the display goes out).[b]- messaging interface a bit confusing[b][b][b]
